Windows Vista Ultimate Preactivated Dell Oem

Posted on  by admin

HI there I would like someone to provide me with a definite answer to this question. Am I correct to believe that if i want to upgrade my Dell XPS M1730 from Vista Ultimate 32 bit to Vista Ultimate 64 bit I am able to request a disk from Dell at a nominal fee? I want to upgrade to take maximum advanatage of the powerful processor and all of the memory. I also have a Dell Inspiron 530 which I have upgraded with a more powerful PSU and graphics card. I understand from Dell Support that they do not support Vista Ultimate 64 bit on this machine yet the drivers to support vista 64 bit on the 530 are all available from the website. Please can anyone clear this confusion up for me?

In a perfect world I would like to run 64 bit opearting systems on both machines. I have bought several nachines from Dell and have liked them all very much. I am particulalrly impressed with my Del XPS M1730. Maybe Dell should consider providing more options for people when they are customising their Dell computers on the Dell website. For example giving more choice about PSUs and 32 bit and 64 bit operating systems.

Windows Vista SP2 (x86 - x64) All in One 59 OEM's SLIC Pre-Activated 2009 DVD 4.23 GB Made by orbit30 2009. This is for machines without slic table, hence vistaloader.

For my next purchase I am seriously considering looking at other companies who already offer these options. I believe Dell could be onto a winner here.

Anyway I hope someone can give me some help with my original question. I am not looking for a 'freebie' just a reasonable cost upgrade.

Many thanks for your time. Retail VISTA ULTIMATE has both the 32 bit and 64 bit DVD's You can use ANY OEM copy of vista ultimate to install and use the same product key. The ultimate OEM cd will install whatever version of the OS you have aka if its vista home tell it vista home if its ultimate tell it ultimate.

Tell it not to use a key at first then reboot bla bla bla it will say you have 30 days to activate. You then do the change product key and it will allow you to put the number thats on your COA sticker. BTW the 530 with bios 1.0.12 to 1.016 works fine. I hear issues with 1.0.18. You can order media from microsoft if you have retail VISTA.

Congratulations on upgrading to Windows Vista. The retail package product ships on DVD with 32-bit edition software, but two forms of alternate media are available to help meet your specific requirements: 32-bit CD If your system features a CD drive but no DVD drive, you can order Windows Vista on CD-ROM. The installation files span multiple discs, so unattended installations are not possible. 64-bit DVD If your system features a 64-bit processor, you can take advantage of its advanced design by ordering 64-bit software media. You'll get the same interface, features, and functions, but you'll get them in an operating system that takes advantage of access to vastly more memory.

All installation files are on a single disc. Please note that 64-bit media is included in the box with the purchase of Windows Vista Ultimate. The 64-bit version of Windows Vista is not for everyone.

Please confirm that your system, applications, and devices are compatible with a 64-bit edition of Windows Vista before installing. Learn more about the. You can order either of these alternate media for a minimal fee, including shipping and handling. To order, you'll need to supply the 25-character product key that came with your purchase. You'll find the product key on a yellow sticker on the back of your DVD media holder.

You'll also need to supply the following information: Your name Your shipping address Credit card information Card type Card number Expiration date Billing address Media choice Your e-mail address. If you have questions, please refer to the.

If you need assistance, please refer to the. Hi there Many thanks for your reply. I did try the path you suggested but Microsoft seemed to have problems with my licence number. I believe this is because the licence is for a Dell Vista 32 bit OEM which doesnt appear to also contain the 64 bit version.

I believe the path to a 64 bit upgrade you suggested is only available for those who have bought a retail DVD. The microsoft page also said something about the offer no longer being available. Since writing my question I have found another thread on these forums that seems to suggest that Dell will only provide an upograde disk from 32 bit to 64 bit vista if you a)live in the USA and b) your machine is within a warranty period. Looks like I will have to wait until I decide to change my computers (laptop and desktop) before going to Windows 64 bit. I did have 64 bit on a computer I gave to my sister which I had used without any issues for several months. Once again I would like to see Dell offer 64 bit Vista when you are cutomising your new builds on their website.

Many thanks for your reply. This is primarily user to user forum, but I can tell you from personal experience that you can request the 64 bit version from Dell. You can get another operating system disk only one time free from Dell. Just go and specifically ask for the 64 bit version or you will receive the same one you already have. This is not an upgrade disk. It is the full version and you will need to do a clean installation and find all the necessary drivers yourself before installing-not an easy task. You will lose all your personal files and programs you installed after you received your computer, so be sure to have all your backups and program disks and all your programs need to be 64 bit compatible.

Think long and hard before trying this. You really need a good reason to install the 64 bit version. It's not worth the trouble in my opinion. I still have my 64 bit disk sitting in the desk. Clearly I am not answering the question you asked, but rather the one you should have asked.

Both the Inspiron 530 and XPS 1730 are limited to 4 GBytes of ram therefore, you will again very little in available memory. Currently there aren't that many 64-bit applications.

I have converted two of my PC to Vista Ultimate 64, a laptop (Latitude D820, 4 GBytes memory) and a desktop (PWS 7400, 12 GBytes of memory). The only application I have seen a real improvement on is Photoshop CS4.

A 64 bit Browser is useless, because the typical plug-ins needed only work with 32 bit browsers. So the question is, “Why Bother.”.
